A word with: Colin Barnfather
Steeped in tradition, Langholm Common Riding takes place on the last Friday in July. With its distinctive emblems of the barley bannock, spade, floral crown and giant thistle carried in a procession through the town, the Cryings of the Fair by the Fair Cryer on horseback, and the breathtaking sight of horses and riders galloping up the narrow Kirk Wynd, it’s one of the region’s most colourful summer events. Colin Barnfather, 68, is the Jubilee Cornet, celebrating the 50th anniversary since he was cornet in 1967.
