The Scatter Hoarders
If you find an unexpected sunflower plant growing in your flower bed, there’s a good chance that a Coal Tit was responsible. The smallest of the British tits
at only 10cm, these acrobatic little birds cache their food between June and December to prepare for possible harsh conditions, depositing one seed or nut at a time, in different locations, in what is known as ‘scatter hoarding’.
