Tell us about your community, voluntary, food, sport, culture, and business stars of D&G and the amazing young people you think deserve recognition in our 10th anniversary awards, before August 11

There’s not long left to nominate your local heroes for the 2019 Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards. You have until August 11 to tell us about the people, groups, organisations and enterprises you feel deserve recognition for the work they do to make the region so special.

Our independent panel of judges can’t wait to read all the nominations, including Anne Barclay of Wigtown, who has herself recently been honoured for her work in the region, with an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

She says the Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards are a tremendous opportunity for people to recognise hard work, commitment and excellence within their communities: “Every category offers the chance to highlight an unsung hero, a rising star, a major accomplishment or outstanding experience and I would urge everyone to consider nominating.

“The nominations we receive are heartwarming and humbling, and for individuals, groups and businesses, just knowing that someone has taken the time to acknowledge the value of what they do can be life-changing and reaffirm their dedication and aspirations.”

Jeff Brown OBE, former head of Moffat Academy, who is judging our Young People awards, says: “There are so many superb young people in our community who give of their time, talent and skills in so many ways to support, individuals, groups and to further their own skills and attributes.

“The Class of 2019 awards are a wonderful opportunity to showcase and reward the personal qualities of the young people in our amazing region. Please help by nominating your special young person.”

We’ll be hearing more from all our judges in next month’s issue. In the meantime, awards host, writer and broadcaster Gilly Fraser, adds her encouragement to readers: “If you know someone who deserves a Dumfries & Galloway Life award, or if you think you or your business deserve one, don’t be shy. Send in a nomination form and give as much detail as possible. It really helps the judges to make up their minds if they have plenty of information to go on.”

Nominations and entries close at midnight on August 11, 2019. The winners will be announced at a special 10th-anniversary awards ceremony at Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries, on November 8, with SP Energy Networks as our headline sponsor. Thank you also to all of our awards sponsors, whose support is invaluable.
