A jewel which unites our region in such a positive way

I write to express my congratulations for the magazine achieving the wonderful milestone of 150 issues. May there be many such milestones reached for such a quality production!
Dumfries & Galloway Life unites our region in such a positive way. This is becoming increasingly important in these challenging times. Every month, those of us who subscribe andthose who purchase over the counter, have something to look forward to: vital in these challenging times of social isolation. By virtue of Covid-19 we are required to be responsible and narrow our personalhorizons to our immediate home, work and family environments, restricting our communication with the outside world to social media, telephone and limited outside exercise patterns. Our key and frontline workers must also, because of their demanding routines, experience even more so the need for some distraction from their own daily.

Your crucial role in our future

Please accept my congratulations to you and your wonderful team as we celebrate the 150th edition of Dumfries & Galloway Life. I remember so well the early days when you were tackling how best to reach the people of [the region]. I have watched with such satisfaction as your contacts have grown and have been thrilled at the national prizes you have deservedly won. What an amazing success it has been and there is no doubt that through your initiative you have helped us all take far greater pride in the region, in the achievements of our people and our communities.
The 150th edition demonstrates that formula so well. Throughout my lifetime, D&G has had to deal with tough and challenging times and today, as I write this, our future is even more challenged by the pandemic crisis we are facing. [Andrea’s] role as editor with her staff managing and delivering this publication becomes even more crucially important in communicating positively about life in the south west. My favourite motto is: ‘It’s no whit you hae, it’s whit you dae we whit you hae!’ Sincere thanks to you and all your team for everything you have done.

Showing our region at its very best

Warmest congratulations to everyone at Dumfries & Galloway Life on completing more than 150 issues which, month after month, show our region at its very best. Most people locally appreciate what a fantastic part of the world we live in but I’m not sure that fact was quite as widely appreciated until the arrival of this region’s very own glossy magazine. Within well-designed pages, you project — to list just a few subjects — the character, culture, crafts, history, countryside, famous exiles and news from our diverse largely rural corner of Scotland. Equally important over the last 14 years, editor Andrea and her team have shone a light on our communities through intuitive features, interviews, supported by the work of talented local photographers. An example of the magazine’s community engagement has been promoting, — and organising — the inspiring Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards, the 10th anniversary presentations of which my wife Ann and I felt privileged to attend in November at Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries. As our country begins to emerge from the pandemic, an unprecedented and challenging period, our NHS, the wider caring community and army of key workers will deserve greatrecognition and I’m sure will rightfully feature in your columns. Dumfries & Galloway Life will play a valuable role, along with all our other excellent local media, in keeping residents informed of progress. I feel sure you will set the scene for better times ahead, to when, once safe to do so, we can again welcome visitors back to our amazing region for the much-needed breaks I’m sure many will need.

Rt Hon. Alister Jack,
Secretary of State for Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway MP

Good luck for the next 150 issues

I was delighted to see the milestone 150th edition of Dumfries & Galloway Life come through my letterbox in Moffat last month and I look forward to reading many more.

Indeed, it was also a real pleasure reading the first issue 14 years ago and I recall thinking the new monthly magazine, focused on the entire region — and produced and colour-printed to a very high standard — was an attractive format. From a reader’s point-of-view, the newcomer perfectly complemented the diverse, in some cases very long-established, existing local media, for which we are particularly fortunate to have in various platforms across south west Scotland. Deservingly, editor Andrea and her team have picked up a string of awards down the years and the engaging magazine, which has become a muchappreciated part of the community, highlights the best of the region, its people and our many attractions. Despite the difficulties so many of us face because of the global coronavirus pandemic, I’m heartened this 151st edition has been published successfully, keeping up-to-date both local readers and the many regular visitors from other parts of the UK and beyond who subscribe. Good luck for the next 150 issues in providing such a colourful insight into our beautiful region and its welcoming communities.

MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale

Congratulations… and thank you

Congratulations on your 150th edition of Dumfries & Galloway Life. It seems only yesterday that you celebrated the 100th edition. The quality of content never ceases to amaze us and especially with the difficulties you must be facing with Covid-19 just now. The magazine brought colour to the fore this month and the photography and stories provided a positively good read. Thank you to Andrea and all the team: quite outstanding in these difficult times. We can’t wait to get back out and see all the beautiful spots and places again in our captivating region.

It’s wonderful Dumfries & Galloway Life is still going through all this. That sense of familiarity, local stories and people, community and warmth, feels needed more than ever just now.
Kim Ayres, Castle Douglas

Thank you for bringing us issue 150, this special edition is a real anchor for the people of Dumfries & Galloway at this difficult time.
The Love Bug D&G

The 150th issue is a tremendous achievement. I remember when you decided to go monthly [in 2009] and the special awards you have received. And not content with running the magazine you decided to hold awards for the folks in Dumfries & Galloway. Another great success: amazing nights with the spotlight on the talented folks we have here.
Drew Low, Castle Douglas

There are benefits to isolation and actually getting to read a magazine you pay a subscription for is a total bonus. And you also get to sit down in peace and have a coffee. 150th edition of Dumfries & Galloway Life: well done Andrea Thompson and team.
Pauline Drysdale, Castle Douglas

The magazine is superb as always and provides an amazing insight into the region which is even more helpful at this time.
Jeff Brown OBE, Moffat
